I’ve been busy with school and haven’t posted anything in a while so I’ll leave you with something good this time.
I don’t have much information about this band but from what I know they’re from Concord California, 22 miles northeast of Oakland and this demo was mas made in 2008, it does not disappoint. The sound is a little more on the darker side and so are the lyrics from what I hear but I don’t have a lyrics sheet so I can’t attest to that. Its pretty straight forward hardcore punk with thrash and a few righteous guitar solos, really well put together songs. The vocals sound a little Man Is The Bastard influenced, took a little time for them to grow on me. Can’t complain about production.

Named after a wallpaper stripper that was in the garage they practiced in, DIF had a few different members and corresponding name changes (Color Blind, Doubleplusgood) in their two year span. Many of their early practice sessions where recorded but none where really worth listening to or distributing. Split between four gnarly songs; Your Fault, Too Much, FDA, Concentration Camp, a lame one: Swing Dance Suicide and some covers that fall way short of their originals I’d say this is still overall really good. I only have a few lyrics for this but they are pretty intelligent and thought out. Much better and full-assed than the long list of mediocre and half-assed bands and side projects the singer later went on to create. They didn’t leave much of an impact on the local music scene and where a little hated from what I’ve heard. Funny thing you can hear the singer muttering “taco”, “yo no quiero”, “burrito” and other gibberish during the breakdown of Levantate because he didn’t know Spanish, he spoke Portuguese.

I don’t know where to start with this one, I think its great. This demo is a breath of fresh air amidst tame, overproduced punk acts and the wave of punk inspired xhardcorex (if you get my drift) that has been coming out. This band was only around for a matter of months before they broke up due to squabbling among band mates which is really a shame. I like the production but vocals get a little drowned out every now and then. Great stuff, no complaints.

Its got that popping snare sound that I fucking hate second only to when a jackass engineer mics a snare like a tom, I don’t know if its the head being too tight, record engineering or both but I think its annoying as dick. With that out of the way this is some righteous hardcore punk. The songs are a bit sloppy and I’ll go out on a limb and say that they probably hadn’t been practicing long before recording for this. Only four songs on this demo makes me wish they recorded more songs. This band is promising and just barley missed the mark with this demo. Good production minus the pop sound of the snare. Really good stuff but its lacking a bit, Cop Watch being the weakest of the tracks.

Some pretty cool tracks that are not the usual verse chorus verse chorus by this Oakland band. The petite female frontman has pretty rough vocals that comes a little unexpected and was a bit too much at times especially since she has pretty cool sounding vocals when she wasn’t yelling. The music changes so much some songs sound like 3 different short songs in one track. Lyrics are good with one song in a female perspective and another in a pederast’s and “New Feet” which sounds like a caveman wrote it about starting a new, I thought the insert was pretty cool, enough to mention it. Looking forward to hearing the next stuff they put out .
